Museo Altamira

Library

The library at the Museum of Altamira specialises in prehistory and heritage, the two specific areas in which the museum works. It contains sections on archaeology and palaeo-environment, the Palaeolithic age, prehistoric art from the five continents, conservation, museology and the management of heritage. It also contains sections on history, art history, the history of Cantabria, and reference works. The library also functions as a centre for the documentation of the history of the cave and the Museum of Altamira.

The opening times are MondayFriday, 09:30 - 14:30

Conditions:

Users without a readers ticket must present suitable identification. A ticket can be obtained by completing the printed form available in the library offices and attaching a photocopy of your identification document.

Queries should be made using the automated library catalogue, which is freely accessible in the reading room. The library has signs and maps showing the location of the various sections and classification numbers.

Users may access the freely accessible collections and periodicals in the reading room or research areas. The old bibliographic collection may be consulted under the supervision of library staff who may impose special conditions for handling items.
